Once upon a time in an abstract place, three siblings struggle with their parents’ absence, while coping with each other. Plunging deeper than a family portrait, The Three Brothers is a visceral trip to the core of brotherhood, dealing with splitting affections and physical space, confronting a common past. Abandonment pervades, triggering doubts, boosting selfishness, inciting to immolation and fratricide.
Dissecting everyday life amongst this suddenly orphaned family, the piece fills a void as the dancer’s bodies overlap, depicting intimate moments, mirroring routines and anguishes most humans experience, one time or another.
Conceived by My Own Name’s prolific artistic director Victor Hugo Pontes, The Three Brothers takes to the stage characters imagined by Gonçalo M. Tavares, awarded writer, highly recognised in the European literary scene, whose books delve into emotional landscapes, human disorders and fears. Created in the pandemic’s aftermath, the piece spawned from the admiration between two vastly creative minds.
Founded in 2000 by Pontes, My Own Name is an artistic project focused on contemporary dance and theatre. They have been consistently performing across Portugal and on European stages and festivals.
