The ever-enchanting operatic elegance will be back with a classic. Tosca is a lyrical diva who falls in love with artist Cavaradossi. The deep affection between them is not disrupted by the occasional argument, however, their love is threatened by evil conspiracy and murky desire. Scarpia, a scheming Police Chief who has long lusted for Tosca’s attention, plots to break the couple up. Cavaradossi is arrested and thrown into prison where he awaits execution, as Scarpia entices the diva to exchange herself for her lover’s release. Can love win against all odds?
Puccini’s everlasting opera features breath-taking moments and mesmerising melodies, with a delightful repertoire of arias, from Vissi d’arte vissi d'amore (I lived for art, I lived for love) to E lucevan le stelle (The stars were shining brightly), two pieces that have enchanted melomanes throughout the years. Commemorating the centennial of Puccini’s death, this classic production is restaged by Russia’s Mariinsky Theatre, a company known for its numerous remarkable achievements. These three superb performances mark the return of the great conductor Valery Gergiev to Macao, with yet another dazzling virtuosic display.
