Jazzist Dexter Gordon plays Dale Turner, a brilliant, self-destructive, African-American musician who moves to Paris in the 1950s to find an audience more appreciative and accepting of his art and race. There, a young woman bonds with the talented musician, but even her affection may not be enough to save the sax player from alcoholism, drug addiction and depression. This deeply human drama probes the price great artists must pay for their talent.

Composed by Herbie Hancock, Round Midnight’s soundtrack was awarded at the Oscars and underscores Hancock’s profound influence on the film’s emotional depth and musical authenticity. Through evocative storytelling and a rich sonic landscape, the motion picture pays homage to the complex, often turbulent world of jazz.
