Program Introduction
Founded in 1953, Fujian Liyuan Opera Inheritance Centre (formerly Fujian Liyuan Opera Experimental Troupe), is the only professional performance group of the Liyuan Opera, which is recognized as the "Living Fossil of the Southern Chinese Opera in Song and Yuan Dynasties". Over the years, the troupe has taken carrying forward the excellent opera culture of the Chinese nation as its own duty, made great efforts to rescue, inherit and develop the artistic tradition of Liyuan Opera, and achieved excellent results. The excellent opera performed this time, “the Scholar and the Widow”, tells a story about Mr. Dong and Ms. Li, who break through numerous barriers and finally achieve a happy reunion. The plot development of the whole opera is like flowing water, full of legendary color, humorous language and beautiful music. The unremitting efforts of the ancient characters to pursue a reasonable and better life are vividly described. The play has won the First Cao Yu Drama Literature Award, the National Stage Art Excellent Project Drama Award, and the Excellent Repertoire Award of the Ministry of Culture. It has toured in Europe and is known as "the artistic height to reach the peak of the Himalayas".
