Background
Under the patronage of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) is hosting the ‘Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2025’. Co-organizers include the Macao Government Tourism Office, Galaxy Entertainment Group, Melco Resorts & Entertainment, MGM, Sands China Ltd., SJM Resorts Limited, and Wynn Resorts Macau. The biennale will be divided into six sections: the Main Exhibition, the Special Exhibition, the City Pavilion, the Public Art Exhibition, the Local Curatorial Project, and the Collateral Exhibition.
The key project of the biennale, the Local Curatorial Project, will be selected through a public call for proposals to nurture local curatorial talent, showcase the achievements of Macao’s art scene, and promote local artistic development. Selected projects will receive funding of up to MOP500,000 for exhibition expenses. The teams will also gain preliminary selection eligibility for the Macao exhibition area at the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale de Venezia in 2026. Individuals interested in contemporary art are encouraged to participate.
Participating Teams
These can include curators/curatorial teams and participating artists, with at least half of the members required to be Macao residents.
Participation Guidelines
Submission Content: Proposals must align with the event's theme, ‘Hey, what brings you here?’. The budget must be within MOP500,000. The exhibition duration must be no less than 8 weeks, and it should open between July 19 and September 21, 2025. Participants are responsible for arranging suitable venues.
Selection Process: The selection jury consists of several local and international experts in the fields and the representatives of IC. They will evaluate eligible exhibition proposals, with no more than six projects selected. Results will be announced in June.
Note: Curators/curatorial teams whose projects are selected will automatically qualify to submit proposals for the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale de Venezia – Collateral Event from Macao, China.

Submission: Submit the hard copies of ‘Exhibition Proposals’ (including ‘Application Form’ and ‘Proposals’) at the MAM reception desk on the first floor of Av. Xian Xing Hai, Macao.
