Goal This course aims to help teachers gain a greater understanding of what pronunciation in English is, of how teachers can help students develop and improve their English pronunciation, and to show what resources are available for teachers and students.
Message - Pronunciation in English, including: sounds in isolation, in words, in sentences and across texts; - Features of pronunciation, including: syllable stress, sentence stress, intonation, rhythm, rhyme, accents, and features of connected speech (e.g. elision, weak forms and assimilation); - Methods, approaches and techniques in teaching pronunciation, including: phonemic script and the phonemic chart, minimal pairs, drills, and dialogues; - Teaching resources, including: poems and songs, key resource books for teachers and students, and teacher-generated ideas; - Assessing and evaluating pronunciation, including: tests, error recognition, and dealing with students’ errors.
