An application of BeiDou Navigation Satellite System in Macao

Google Play

The development of a smart city cannot be achieved without a real-time positioning service, to which whether in-vehicle navigation, outings or leisure travel. China’s “BeiDou Navigation Satellite System” has provided satellite positioning service to most of the Asia-Pacific regions in 2012, and it is planned to provide positioning services to global users in around 2020.

The Cartography and Cadastre Bureau currently has four satellite positioning system reference stations that support the satellite signals of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, the US GPS and the Russian GLONASS. The service covers all districts in Macao and effectively supports various types of surveying and mapping work and engineering construction. To further deepen the application, the Cartography and Cadastre Bureau and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University successfully introduced the positioning technology of the satellite positioning system reference station into the new version 2.5 of the mobile application "Macau GeoGuide", in which calibration signals can be received by switching on the “satellite positioning calibration” function, and the positioning accuracy of the mobile phone is optimized to less than 5 meters, particularly significant in an environment where there is no WiFi nearby.

The positioning technology introduced in the application of "Macau GeoGuide" is an important step in popularizing the national professional satellite positioning technology to the level of life application. In the future, more optimized technology will be introduced in response to the development of positioning technologies, which enable citizens and tourists to enjoy better and more accurate geographic information services.

The new version 2.5 of "Macau GeoGuide" can be downloaded for free in App Store and Google Play, citizens and tourists are welcome to download the App by scanning the QR Code below.
