Inauguration of exhibition “Assemblage of Treasures – Exhibition of the Macao Museum Collection in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary”

In order to celebrate its 20th anniversary, the Macao Museum, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, organised the exhibition “Assemblage of Treasures – Exhibition of the Macao Museum Collection for Celebration of the 20th Anniversary”, which was inaugurated on 28 September, at the lobby of the Macao Museum. The ceremony was officiated by the Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R., Wan Sucheng; the Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Kent Ieong Chi Kin; the President of the Hou Kong Seal Association, Sio Chun Iun; the member of the Cultural Heritage Committee, Lei Ip Fei; the Head of the Department of Exhibitions and Museums of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Lei Lai Kio; the Head of the Department of Research and Educational Resourcesof the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Wong Kin Mou; and the Director of the Macao Museum, Loi Chi Pang.

The exhibition runs from 29 September 2018 to 24 February 2019 (closed on Mondays). The exhibition features over eighty items/ sets of treasures selected from exquisite collections of the Museum, thereby showcasing the continuous dedication of the Macao Museum in collecting historical relics with cultural and artistic value related to Macao.

The exhibition is divided into six sections ─ “Lingnan Paintings”, “European Traveller’s Paintings”, “Style and Life”, “The Multicultural Macao”, “Exhibition Overview” and “Education Space”, highlighting the cultural exchanges between East and West for over four hundred years. The inheritance of Chinese cultural traditions can be found in Chinese and Western paintings, household appliances, and personal legacies of celebrities, such as of Gao Jianfu, George Chinnery and André Auguste Borget, who resided in Macao due of its unique environment and built a special bond with the city. The collection of the exhibition showcases the charm of Macao’s unique culture.

In conjunction with the theme of the exhibition and to allow the audience to get to know more about the collection of cultural relics in the Macao Museum, the exhibition venue features multimedia displays and educational areas. On 27 October (Saturday), the organiser will hold a thematic talk entitled “Appreciating the paintings in the Exhibition of the Macao Museum Collection for Celebration of the 20th Anniversary” by the Director of the Macao Museum of Art, Chan Kai Chon. Residents, associations and schools are welcome to register for the talk. During the exhibition period, a “Order” workshopthemed on the Macao Museum’s collection will be held on 20 October, 24 November and 15 December, from 10:30am to 11:30am for families, and from 12pm to 1pm for the public. Interested parties can register online through the “Activity Registration System” on the Cultural Affairs Bureau’s website at www.icm.gov.mo/eform/event. Admission is free for Macao residents with valid Resident Identity Cards or student cards.
