The third plenary meeting of the Committee for Development of the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries was held today (11th). The meeting was chaired by Mr Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region cum Chairman of the Committee. Mr Chui recognised that the synergy and coordination among the departments had been strengthened while the development of the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries was jointly promoted in an orderly manner, thanks to the establishment of the Committee, which enabled the Macao SAR government to actively carry out its work under the relevant working mechanism.
The meeting reviewed the work and progress of the Committee in promoting the construction of the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries from 2017 onwards, as well as future work arrangements and prospects.
Mr Chui said at the meeting that the national "12th Five-Year Plan" and "13th Five-Year Plan" explicitly support Macao's development of “One Platform”. The Committee will continue to follow the guidance of the Central Government, gather the wisdom and strengths of different sectors in Macao, enhance cross-departmental and synergistic collaboration, formulate effective policies and measures, and spare no effort in carrying the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries forward to the next level.
Tasks of the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries in Steady Progress
According to the Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao Special Administrative Region cum Vice Chairman of the Committee Leong Vai Tac, since the Fifth Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) held in October 2016, with the overall planning and coordination of the Committee, the Macao SAR Government had effectively implemented a number of initiatives proposed at the meeting to support co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, including relocating the headquarter of the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Co-operation and Development Fund to Macao, the construction of "Complex of Commerce and Trade Co-operation Platform for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries", which had already commenced, the establishment of "China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Federation of Entrepreneurs", and the accelerated development of key projects such as the "Three Centers" under the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
In the future, the Committee will continue to pragmatically carry out a series of tasks, including the implementation of various measures and the Strategic Plan announced by the State in the 5th Ministerial Conference in support of Macao’s construction of the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, and promote the co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries in production capacity, investment and trade promotion, human resources, cultural exchanges, as well as provincial and municipal co-operation. Meanwhile, through the construction of the China-PSC financial service platform and the holding of relevant exhibition and exchange activities, the Committee will continue to endeavor for greater advancement in economic co-operation and cultural exchanges between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.
Development Works of the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries in Full swing
Glória Batalha Ung, Executive Director of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and Secretary General of the Committee, reported on the achievements of the Committee over the past year. She also introduced the progress of the construction of the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, the "Three Centers" and the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Federation of Entrepreneurs made by the Macao SAR Government.
Director Sou Chio Fai of the Tertiary Education Services Office introduced the building of a bilingual talent training base in Macao and important measures in recent years.
Mok Ian Ian, Director of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, reported on the establishment of the "Cultural Exchanges between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries" and the first "Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries", which was held with success in July 2018.
Tai Kin Ip, Director of the Economic Bureau, introduced the status and plans of the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Co-operation and Development Fund, the Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre and the Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Exchange Program between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries.
Advisor to the Secretariat for Economy and Finance Lu Hong introduced the works and future development plan of the international exchange and co-operation platform of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Cooperation between Guangdong and Macao
Mok Iun Lei, Coordinator of the Supporting Office to the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), reported on the progress of the construction of the "Complex of Commerce and Trade Co-operation Platform for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries". Vong Sin Man, Executive Director the Monetary Authority of Macao, reported on the progress of the China-PSC financial service platform.
It was announced at the meeting that the 6th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), originally scheduled for 2019, will be held 2020.
The meeting was concluded by Mr Chui Sai On and he encouraged the members of the Committee to forge ahead in unity, and work together to promote the Forum Macao and Macao's "One Platform" to achieve greater results at the new starting point in the history. He also called on the members to proactively join the Country’s momentum to strengthen their own capability in order to broaden the development room for Macao citizens, improve citizens’ participation in the city’s development and gain citizens’ approval, as well as enhancing their happiness.
