The 32nd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), will present the Chinese music concert Nostalgic Lane on 19 October (Friday), at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. Chinese suona legend Guo Yazhi will premiere his masterpieces in Macao and lead the audience to appreciate this instrument and Chinese music from a whole new perspective. A number of extraordinary shows continue to be staged this week, which are not to be missed.
The Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Macao Chinese Orchestra, Liu Sha, will lead the Macao Chinese Orchestra, together with Chinese suona legend Guo Yazhi to present the concert Nostalgic Lane. In this concert, Guo Yazhi will debut his suona concerto All About Hometown and Guo Yazhi and World Music in Macao. The concert will also feature the world premiere of Ge Liang Liang, a Chinese orchestra suite depicting the charms of Shanxi by famous composer Wang Danhong, will offer music aficionados a different impression of Shanxi. A pre-show talk will be held on the day of the concert from 7pm to 7:30pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Conference Room, in which Guo Yazhi will personally explain Nostalgic Lane. Interested music aficionados are welcome to register for the talk. Seats are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition, British vocal ensembles Stile Antico that has been nominated thrice for the Grammy Awards, will present Queen of Muses without a conductor in a seamless rapport, prying into the royal grievances and secrets of the Tudor dynasty. Stile Antico will also present Tenebrae Responsories, leading the audience on a journey of hymns. These two concerts will be held on 20 October (Saturday) and 21 October (Sunday), at 8pm, at Dom Pedro V Theatre. Camerata Salzburg from Mozart's hometown, will collaborate with famous French violinist Renaud Capuçon, presenting the concert Camerata Salzburg and Renaud Capuçon on 21 October (Sunday), at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium, featuring two violin concertos by Mozart and two different symphonies by Haydn.
In order to allow the audience to have a deeper understanding of the content of the MIMF, pre-show talks will be specially held for a number of programmes, including Queen of Muses, Tenebrae Responsories, Camerata Salzburg and Renaud Capuçon and Christian Thielemann and Staatskapelle Dresden, inviting a number of speakers who will analyze the highlights of the performances. In the Meet-the-Artist session “The Looping Electronic Music World of Buddha Machine”, FM3, the electronic music duo from Beijing, is specially invited to give a short performance of Buddha Boxing.
