Multiple Sessions Held and Agreements Signed on the First Day of the 23rd MIF and the 2018 PLPEX

A number of agreements are signed on the first day

On the first day of the “23rd Macao International Trade and Investment Fair” (23rd MIF) and the “2018 Portuguese-Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao)” (2018 PLPEX), about 170 matching sessions were held in the Business Matching Area and a total of 65 agreements were signed at the Signing Centre. Guests and exhibitors were satisfied with the outcomes of participating in the two exhibitions, which effectively helped companies to “go global” and “bring in investment” and made their co-operation possible.

On the first day, a total of 65 agreements were signed at the Signing Centre, covering collaboration between governments and associations, tourism, in a variety of sectors including MICE, cultural and creative industries, cross-border e-commerce, environmental protection technologies, product manufacturing, marketing and agency. Among them, a total of seven agreements were inked with Portuguese-speaking countries. The signing parties included government departments, chambers of commerce, associations and enterprises from Mainland China (Guizhou, Jilin, Qingdao, Harbin, Heilongjiang, Jiangsu, Yunnan, Henan, Chengdu, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Guangzhou, and Foshan), Portugal, Mozambique, Brazil, Belgium, Mauritius, Singapore, France, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macao and many more countries/regions. In addition, around 170 matching sessions took place in the Business Matching Area, including 51 conducted with Portuguese-speaking countries such as Angola, Brazil, Mozambique and Portugal.

Ms Hao, a local exhibitor engaging in furniture and building materials business and an online e-commerce trader, said that she had reached co-operation consensus with a total of eight companies. Among them, four companies will launch their products in her furniture and building materials company, while the other four companies from Macao will use her online e-commerce platform to sell their products, mainly including souvenirs and handicrafts. She concluded that the exhibitions had embodied the theme of “Co-operation – Key to Business Opportunities”.

Another exhibitor Mr Wang said that he participated in this year’s MIF for the first time with the aim of establishing co-operative ties with traders from around the world by virtue of the advantageous role of Macao as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, as well as the constructive effects of the MIF. According to him, in addition to an agreement signed with a company from Fujian province at the “Mozambique-Fujian-Macao Trade and Investment Forum”, some companies also approached him about their intentions to grow featured black tea in Mozambique.

A series of concurrent activities will be held tomorrow (on 19 October), including the “15th World Summit of Chinese Entrepreneurs”, the “4th Young Entrepreneurs Forum of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”, the “1st Forum on MICE Cooperation between Cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area - New Opportunities-New Future”, the “Congjiang County Investment Conference”, the “PSC Fashion Shows” and the “Portuguese-speaking Countries Cultural Music/Dance Performances”. By leveraging the unique strengths of Macao, these activities are aimed at assisting traders in their exploration of business opportunities.

The 23rd MIF and the 2018 PLPEX will open to general public from 19 to 20 October. Free shuttle buses travelling between the exhibition venue and the stops at Rua do Mercado de lao Hon (opposite to Jardim de Iao Hon and near the Isquare Computer Plaza), Rua do Dr. Pedro José Lobo (near the Macau Square), Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida (near Pak Wai Bus Stop) and Avenida de Guimaraes (Parque Central da Taipa and opposite to Nova Park) will be available to support green travel.
