The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, is to attend the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, to be held in Zhuhai at 9am on Tuesday (23 October).
The Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) is pleased with the launch of the infrastructure. The Bridge will open to traffic at 9am on 24 October.
The launch of the Bridge will assist in Macao’s efforts to boost regional cooperation and will help to integrate further the city into the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The Bridge is also expected to have significant positive impacts in terms of exchanges of people, goods and encouragement for movement of capital between the three places, creating fresh opportunities for businesses.
Thanks to the strong support of the Central Government, the Bridge has been developed jointly by the Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao authorities.
The fundamentals of the boundary crossing facility serving Macao on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge were completed by late December 2017. As approved by the State Council, Macao’s jurisdictional role regarding the area became effective after the stroke of midnight on 15 March 2018.
Since 15 March, the Chief Executive, Mr Chui, has made multiple visits to the boundary crossing area in order to assess the progress made regarding the preparations for the Bridge’s launch.
