Diversified Contents Yield Satisfying Results

“China-Portuguese-speaking Countries E-Commerce Experience Hall” attracts numerous merchants

The 23rd Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (23rd MIF) and the 2018 Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao) (2018 PLPEX) were successfully concluded today (20 Oct). The two exhibitions held concurrently have created a superimposed effect and established a cross-industry platform for exhibitors and merchants, many of whom reported fruitful results.

Enterprises from the “Partner Country” and the “Partner Province” Are Satisfied with the Exhibition Duo

Ângela Ismael, an exhibitor in the “Mozambique Pavilion” set by MIF's “Partner Country”, said that during the three days, exhibitors from different countries and regions had shown strong interest in the her country’s minerals, handmade bags and footwear, food including cashew nuts and dried fruit. She had successfully reached co-operation intentions with many companies. She also agreed that by fully leveraging its advantages to receive global merchants, MIF helped her company to connect with enterprises from Mainland China, Macao and other countries and regions, and provided effective assistance to explore business opportunities.

Mr Huang, an exhibitor engaged in ceramic goods from the “Fujian Province Pavilion” set by MIF’s “Partner Province”, said that it was his first time to be a participant in the MIF, and that Macao was his first stop on the course of seeking overseas market. During the three-day exhibition, his company had not only displayed ceramic sculptures but also carved ceramics manually on site, attracting numerous merchants to consult him for large production. He agreed that MIF is a significant platform capable of linking domestic companies with overseas markets and promoting Chinese cultural and creative products to the world.

Featured Exhibition Areas Usher in Investment Opportunities

The newly established “Young Entrepreneur Exhibition Zone” invited a number of young entrepreneurs. Ms Ho from the art sector reported gratifying results from the exhibition in terms of publicity. Approximately 50 to 100 participants per day were attracted by her exhibition, some of them expressed their intentions to co-operate. She said that her company would follow-up these collaboration intentions and strengthen the exposure of their products in Macao’s schools. Mr Ng from the catering industry said that dozens of participants enquired about the intelligent cash register and some of them had already started discussing details of partnership.

The “Featured Finance Exhibition Zone”, also a new element for the MIF this year, has demonstrated the potential of featured finance. Mr Lai, a person in-charge of a financial institution who attended the MIF for the second time, said that hundreds of participants made enquiries about his exhibits. He recognised the exhibition’s efficacy in business promotion and expressed his expectation to participate for the third time. Ms Lam, a financial industry player, said that her aim was to promote intelligent POS system at this year’s event, which she had already achieved in the three-day exhibition, with dozens of people approaching her about the system and collaboration.

In the "Exhibition Zone of Congjiang County, Guizhou Province", exhibitors including Mr Zhang were surprised by fruitful results. Mr Zhang exhibited organic rice and other agricultural products manufactured by his company and reported that all the organic rice was sold out within just three days. He hopes to introduce more and more people from all over the world to the quality agricultural products in Congjiang County, and to find co-operation partners in Macao and the Mainland. At present, four companies already started in-depth negotiations with Mr Zhang with a view to importing Mr Zhang’s products to Macao. Another exhibitor, Mr Li, displayed silver handicrafts in the exhibition and sold them in large quantities. He hoped that the platform could draw attention from an increasing number of people to this intangible cultural heritage.

Cross-border E-Commerce of the New Retail Pavilion Draws Attention

This year, the PLPEX set up the “China-Portuguese E-Commerce Experience Hall” and organised the “Portuguese-speaking Countries Product Cross-border E-commerce Workshop” for the first time to introduce and promote the “Cross-border E-Commerce + New Retail Model” and to help merchants in Portuguese-speaking countries enter the Mainland market through an online platform.

According to Mr Ma, person in-charge of the Experience Hall, the achievements in the three days were very satisfying, with more than 100 companies experiencing the cross e-commerce exhibition and enquiring about the details of the operation mode. Many of these companies showed strong interest in food cross-border e-commerce co-operation with Portuguese-speaking countries.

Daniel Martins, an exhibitor from Portugal, became familiar with the operation mode of cross-border e-commerce through the visit and experience and was very interested in adopting this practice to tap into the Mainland market.

Mrs Wang who is engaged in legal affairs attained positive results from the exhibition as dozens of exhibitors from Portuguese-speaking countries made enquiries about co-operation with an aim bring the products from Portuguese-speaking countries to China more efficiently with the legal assistance provided by Mainland’s lawyers. She also hoped that the PLPEX could enlarge its scale and diversify its contents so that it can fully leverage its function as an economic and trade platform.

Community Guided Tours Explore the Economic Environment of the Greater Bay Area

In order to give full play to Macao's advantages in the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, to promote moderate and diversified economic development, and to extend the exhibition effects, the organiser arranged guided tours for merchants from home and abroad to inspect the Macao Youth Entrepreneur Incubation Centre and the Macau Brand Incubation Center during the exhibition period.

Mr Ye from the trade industry in Malaysia said that this guided tour offered him an opportunity to inspect the quality of youth entrepreneurship and branding in Macao, in preparation for starting business in Macao in the future. Tomorrow (21 Oct), entrepreneurs from Portuguese-speaking countries and Macao will visit some of the cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including Shenzhen and Zhongshan, so as to gain an deeper understanding of the development opportunities of the Greater Bay Area.

Serving the purpose of advancing the community economy through the exhibition platform, tours were arranged for over 100 participating guests and exhibitors to the North District, Central and South District and Islands District of Macao for sightseeing, shopping and local experience. Mr Zheng, engaged in art in Zhuhai, expressed that the local community tour gave a different perspective of Macao and he could physically experience the uniqueness of Macao as a platform for China and Portuguese-speaking countries. He was able to meet with the relevant enterprises and see business opportunities.
