UM holds legal translation workshop

UM will hold a legal translation workshop

The Chinese-Portuguese Bilingual Teaching and Training Centre under the University of Macau (UM) Department of Portuguese will hold a legal translation workshop every Friday from 26 October to 30 November. The workshop is open to all professionals in related fields, postgraduate students, academics, and those who are interested in the subject.

The workshop will be conducted by Dr Lu Chi Seng, translation consultant and legal consultant of the Macao SAR. It aims to help participants understand the meaning and process of legal translation. Students will learn basic theoretical knowledge of legal translation and the necessary skills in translating texts from Portuguese to Chinese and vice versa. They will also be given practical exercises focused on this particular text type, to explore in depth its singularities and specificities.

The workshop will be conducted in Portuguese on Friday evenings from 7:00pm to 10:00pm at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (E21-1030). A minimum level of B2 Portuguese language proficiency, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), is required to attend this course.
