CE: Well prepared for grand opening of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

The Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, said that the MSAR Government welcomes the official opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, and is well prepared for it to commence operations.

Interviewed by the media on Monday (22 October) before attending a dinner and award presentation to celebrate the National Day cum Golden Jubilee of the Macao Media Workers Association, the Chief Executive said that an MSAR Government delegation will attend the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge on Tuesday. He expressed his sincere congratulations for the completion of this great infrastructure project and its commencement.

Reportedly, all parties concerned – especially those related to security and transport, have passed the trial run, and the Government is well prepared for the bridge’s official commencement of operations on 24 October.

Mr Chui also responded to a media inquiry regarding the sudden death of Mr Zheng Xiaosong, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR. The Central People’s Government has announced Mr Zheng’s cause of death. Mr Chui was deeply distressed by the sad news, and again expressed his heartfelt condolences to Mr Zheng’s family.

The Chief Executive added that he had long maintained a good working relationship with Mr Zheng for many years. He said Mr Zheng was a positive person who always strived for the best in his work. They shared the common goal of ensuring Macao’s peace, prosperity and long-term stability, and handling Macao affairs strictly according to the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China and the Basic Law of the Macao SAR.
