The 32nd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), presents the concert Christian Thielemann and Staatskapelle Dresden, on 27 and 28 October, at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium, leading the audience to experience Schumann’s romantic poetry and enthusiasm, exceptional concerts not to be missed.
With a history of 470 years, the Staatskapelle Dresden is one of the world’s oldest orchestra, a leading interpreter of German and Austrian music. Its principal conductor, Christian Thielemann, with his precise grasp of classical music, is one of the most sought-after conductor in the world and deemed the heir of German classical music. Led by Thielemann, the orchestra will present the complete symphonies by Schumann, bringing back the sentiments, exceptional and innovative musicality of Schumann and the meticulous and substantial texture of the German romantic symphonies. A pre-show talk will be held on the day of the concert from 7pm to 7:45pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Conference Room, in which Leon Chu, the music director and conductor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong Chorus, will analyze the highlights of the performance. Interested music aficionados are welcome to register for the talk. Seats are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition, the quartet Los Romero, known as “The Royal Family of the Guitar”, will take to stage on 26 and 27 October, at Dom Pedro V Theatre, presenting a number of Spain’s classical music with their superb technique and neat, exquisite manner, including masterpieces by great composers such as Albéniz, Granados and Lorente, as well as Brazilian classics, Bizet’s Carmen Suite, and the quartet’s original works, revealing the splendor of classical guitar.
