Dr. Joaquim Ramos, President of Instituto Português do Oriente (IPOR) visited the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) on 30 October and was warmly welcomed by Professor Im Sio Kei, President of MPI. Dr. Ramos visited the Chinese-Portuguese-English Machine Translation Laboratory and learned about the teaching and research development of MPI and its contribution to the Language Services Industry in Macao. Later, a cordial and fruitful discussion was held in which both parties exchanged ideas on various aspects of their cooperation.
During the meeting, Professor Im expressed his intention to expand the realm of cooperation with IPOR and its partners from Portugal and to foster collaboration between teachers and students of the two parties. He added that MPI will continue to improve its pedagogy in all academic disciplines.
Meanwhile, Dr. Joaquim Ramos showed great gratitude to MPI for the warm reception and he also expected to undertake cooperation with MPI in expanding Portuguese language teaching.
Both parties discussed cooperation in different fields, including the promotion of the research projects conducted by the Chinese-Portuguese-English Machine Translation Laboratory through the platform of IPOR. Besides, an exchange program of teachers from IPOR to MPI was suggested, which would be able to provide a good opportunity for teachers from both parties to interact with each other. Moreover, an internship program between IPOR and MPI was also recommended in which students and graduates from MPI would participate in the cultural events held by IPOR and experience the cultures of different Portuguese-speaking countries.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Joaquim Ramos and Professor Im remarked that both parties are working together and striving to promote Portuguese teaching and culture.
