Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 1,420 new companies were incorporated in the third quarter of 2018, an increase of 170 year-on-year. Total value of registered capital rose by 118.7% to MOP254 million, attributable to the incorporation of new companies with large capital in Financial Services and the Transport sector. Analysed by industry, there were 485 newly incorporated companies operating in Wholesale & Retail, 309 in Business Services and 199 in Construction. Meanwhile, companies in dissolution totalled 172 in the third quarter, and the value of registered capital of companies in dissolution amounted to MOP59 million.
Analysed by size of registered capital, there were 1,068 new companies (75.2% of total) registered with capital under MOP50,000, and the total value of capital was MOP28 million. On the other hand, there were 26 new companies registered with capital of MOP1 million or more, and the total value of capital amounted to MOP181 million (71.5% of total).
As regards origin of capital, the majority of the capital came from Macao (MOP212 million) and Mainland China (MOP21 million), including MOP10 million from Guangdong. Capital from the Mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area totalled MOP10 million, of which Zhuhai and Guangzhou accounted for 25.9% and 23.3% respectively. Capital from Hong Kong amounted to MOP13 million. Analysed by combination of shareholders, there were 995 new companies established solely by Macao shareholders, and 148 joint ventures between shareholders from Macao and other countries or regions.
In the first three quarters of 2018, a total of 4,593 new companies were incorporated, up by 642 year-on-year; total value of registered capital decreased by 90.6% to MOP710 million. Number of companies in dissolution totalled 605, and the value of registered capital of companies in dissolution amounted to MOP226 million.
At the end of the third quarter of 2018, number of registered companies totalled 65,035, an increase of 4,990 from a year earlier.
