The “27th Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival” is held from 7 to 10 November in Foshan, Guangdong. The film Love is Cold, directed by Macao young director Fei Ho, was screened at the “Hong Kong and Macao Film Showcase” session, presenting Macao’s current film culture and development, and was well-received by the audience.

The Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Ieong Chi Kin, referred at the opening ceremony speech in the Film Festival that Macao is a city that features Chinese and Western cultural characteristics, and therefore is a unique landscape in the Greater China region. In recent years, Macao has attracted more and more film crews from all over the world. He further referred that with the policy measures from the Macao SAR Government and the efforts of the film industry, a number of outstanding local film productions have been produced and achieved good results. In the past, most of Macao’s film productions were literary and artistic creations; the film Love is Cold, presented in the session “Hong Kong and Macao Film Showcase”, however, features more commercial elements so that the public can watch Macao films of different styles.

The Macao film Love is Cold, adapted from a novel with the same name written by local author Tai Pei, has participated in international competitions such as the Cannes Film Festival in France and the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market, and has also been screened at the Cinematheque‧Passion and UA Galaxy Cinemas. The film is set before the Macao handover to China, and is centred on a youth love story. In an era of social turmoil and gangsters, it depicts the revenge deliberately planned by a girl, interspersed with plots such as betrayal, obsession, destruction and sex. At the same time, it also probes into social issues such as child abuse and school bullying.

The “Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival” is a large-scale national cultural event offering an array of film awards, Chinese and foreign films, academic seminars, a film market, international cultural exchange and cultural and artistic performances. This annual event of the Chinese film industry is the oldest film awards event in China and one of the four major film festivals in the country. The Macao delegation included the Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Ieong Chi Kin; the President of the Macau Film and Television Association, Choi On On; the Vice President of the Macau Film and Television Association, Hou Yu Jie; the representative of the 1220 Film Production Co. Ltd, U Chi Hou; the Secretary of the Macao Media Advancement Association, Chan Pui Nan and the Vice President of the Associação Espaço Vídeo, Chu Lun Bo. During the film festival, the Macao delegation interacted with representatives of the film industry from all over the world and promoted Macao films.
