Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT), the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPolyU) and Sun Yat-Sen University signed yesterday (21 Nov) the memorandum entitled “Memorandum of Cooperation of the Establishment of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Tourism Research Alliance”. The three institutions will jointly organise and set up the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Tourism Research Alliance”, studying issues related to tourism development in urban agglomeration of the Area, and building National Think Tank for the study of the Area.
The signing ceremony was held yesterday at the HKPolyU. Dr. Fanny Vong, the President of IFT, Prof. Haiyan Song, Acting Dean of the School of Hotel & Tourism Management of HKPolyU, and Prof. Honggan Xu, the Dean of the School of Tourism Management of Sun Yat-Sen University had signed the Memorandum in representative of each academy institution. Prof. Timothy W. Tong, the President of HKPolyU, and Prof. Jun Luo, the President of Sun Yat-Sen University witnessed the signing.
According to the protocol, the three institutions will give full play to their advantages and jointly establish the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Tourism Research Alliance” to carry out the research on the tourism cooperation and competition relations among the urban agglomeration of the Greater Bay Area, to conduct targeted monitoring on the sustainable development of tourism in the Greater Bay Area, and jointly study the laws and problems of the development of tourism in the Greater Bay Area, providing research results to the government and other management departments in a timely manner, and assisting the government decision-making with intellectual support.
The three institutions will promote the positive interaction between regional tourism economy and ecological environment through the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Tourism Research Alliance”, and achieve the coordinated and sustainable development of tourism economy, social culture and natural environment. It is planned to organise international academic activities for Greater Bay Area tourism cooperation; to carry out tourism research relevant to the Greater Bay Area; and to jointly promote the process of international cooperation in the tourism industry of the Greater Bay Area and enhance the level of internationalisation of the tourism industry in the Greater Bay Area.
