The IFT’s Global Centre for Tourism Education and Training organised a training programme titled “Capacity Building for Sustainable Tourism Development and Destination Marketing” from 21 to 28 November. Twenty-two representatives of government departments from Cambodia, Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe, Timor-Leste, the World Tourism Organization(UNWTO), Greater Bay Area and Macao participated in the training. This is the sixth training held by the Centre.
On 28 November, IFT President, Dr. Fanny Vong, Director of the Global Centre for Tourism Education and Training, Prof. John Ap and participants of the training programme visited Dr. Alexis Tam Chon Weng, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture. The Macao SAR Government and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Macao in October 2015. The objective was to enhance cooperation between the two parties in improving the quality of human capital and increasing the competitiveness of tourism destinations in order to achieve sustainable tourism development. The Global Centre for Tourism Education and Training, which was officially established by the Macao SAR Government through IFT in 2016, has organised several training and education programmes for tourism officials and industry representatives in collaboration with UNWTO. Secretary Tam reiterated that the Macao SAR Government supports and encourages IFT’s Global Centre for Tourism Education and Training to organise more training programmes for different countries and regions, including Portuguese speaking countries and Greater Bay Area. He hoped that participants can apply what they had learned to their countries and regions.
The participants thanked Secretary Tam and stated that through the training programme, they had gained insights into tourism strategies and management knowledge and absorbed the valuable experience of Macao’s tourism development.
