Workshop on the “Common Cultural Heritage of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”


The Legal Affairs Bureau (DSAJ) is going to co-organize a workshop on the “Common Cultural Heritage of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” with the Institute of European Studies of Macau (IEEM) in the Lotus Room of the Grand Lapa Hotel, Macao on December 13th from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The workshop is incorporated in the 3rd Cooperation Programme in the Legal Area between the Macao SAR and the EU.

With the themes of the “Preservation and Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Greater Bay Area” and the “Common Lingnam Cultural Heritage in the Greater Bay Area: Current Perspective and Preservation of Tangible and Intangible Heritage”, this workshop aims at providing a common platform for academics and experts in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with a view to exchange professional knowledge about the common cultural heritage and its legal implications as well as the best practical implications in this area in order to contribute to the preservation of the common cultural heritage in the Greater Bay Area. This event will focus on the following topics:

  1. A Common Legal Framework for the Protection of Cultural Heritage;
  2. Cross-border Arbitration of Cultural Objects;
  3. Cultural Heritage and Creative Industries;
  4. Common Lingnam Cultural Heritage: the Past, the Present and the Future;
  5. Macao’s Approach to the Renewal of Cultural Heritage in the Greater Bay Area: Recommendations for Best Practices in the Field;
  6. Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong;
  7. Five years after the Implementation of the Macao Heritage Law: Achievements & Challenges – A Practical Perspective.

The workshop will feature seven roundtable sessions and the attendees include experts and academics coming from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This workshop will be conducted in English and Cantonese with simultaneous interpretation.

The 3rd Co-operation Programme in the Legal Field between the Macao SAR and the European Union is going to take place until November 2019. The execution of the Co-operation Programme is coordinated by the Legal Affairs Bureau and hosted by many different entities and public departments of the Macao SAR, namely, the Legal and Judicial Training Centre, the Institute of European Studies of Macau, the Macao Economic Services, the Macau Consumer Council and the Social Welfare Bureau.
