An additional 1,700 Macao-registered motor vehicles will be permitted to enter Hengqin Island in Zhuhai Prefecture, marking an aggregate quota of 2,500 vehicles so licensed under a cross-boundary scheme.
The increase in aggregate quota, as part of the third phase of the vehicle scheme, was jointly announced today by the Macao Special Administrative Region Government and the Zhuhai Government.
Applications for quota access can be made starting on 20 December. The 1,700 permits will be allocated in three batches. There will be 700 on offer in the first batch; a further 500 in the second batch; and another 500 in the third batch.
The starting dates for applications for the latter two batches of permits will be announced later by the Macao and Zhuhai authorities, after reviewing the implementation of the initial batch of new permits, and operations at respective cross-boundary checkpoints.
Macao and Zhuhai will continue to maintain close contact in terms of reviewing the scheme, based on a number of criteria. They include: the number of applications made for access to quota; boundary checkpoint handling capacity; and circumstances in Macao. The scheme is designed to ensure better use is made of measures by mainland authorities favouring Macao’s development, that are already either under way or have been announced.
Those seeking further details regarding application for access to quota should visit a dedicated website run by mainland authorities (tgsq.hengqin.gov.cn) or call the relevant service hotline on either 0756-8841835 or 0756-8841875.
Those with Macao vehicles permitted to enter Hengqin may visit the website of the Macao Customs Service (www.customs.gov.mo) and that of the Transport Bureau (www.dsat.gov.mo) for information on boundary-crossing formalities at the Cotai checkpoint, an infrastructure directly linking Macao to Hengqin. In addition to the above websites, the Macao Customs Service has a telephone hotline (00853-89894317) for enquiries.
