Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the employment situation in Macao was satisfactory. The general unemployment rate for September-November 2018 was 1.7%, down by 0.1 percentage point from the previous period (August-October 2018); meanwhile, the unemployment rate of local residents remained unchanged at 2.4% and the underemployment rate dropped by 0.1 percentage point to 0.3%.
Total labour force was 392,900 and the labour force participation rate was 70.7%. Total employment was 386,100, up by 100 from the previous period; number of employed residents totalled 283,000, down by 400. Analysed by industry, employment in the Transport, Storage & Communications Sector and the Construction Sector registered increases, while that in Hotels & Similar Activities and Gaming & Junket Activities saw decreases.
Number of the unemployed was 6,800, down by 100 from the previous period. Fresh labour force entrants searching for their first job accounted for 14.1% of the total unemployed, down by 0.8 percentage points.
In comparison with September-November 2017, the unemployment rate and the underemployment rate decreased by 0.2 and 0.1 percentage points respectively, while the labour force participation rate rose by 0.3 percentage points.
