Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for November 2018 amounted to MOP1.02 billion, up by 1.8% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP899 million) increased by 6.8%, with that of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products surging notably by 526.1%. However, value of domestic exports (MOP124 million) dropped by 24.1%, with that of Pharmaceutical products & organic chemicals and Tobacco falling by 60.7% and 48.3% respectively. Total merchandise import rose by 6.7% year-on-year to MOP8.06 billion, of which imports of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products, Garments & footwear and Mobile phones expanded by 34.6%, 21.2% and 20.4% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in November amounted to MOP7.04 billion.
From January to November 2018, total value of merchandise export increased by 7.4% year-on-year to MOP11.15 billion, of which value of re-exports (MOP9.74 billion) grew by 11.3%, but that of domestic exports (MOP1.41 billion) declined by 13.3%. Total value of merchandise import went up by 21.1% year-on-year to MOP82.21 billion. Merchandise trade deficit widened to MOP71.06 billion for the first eleven months of 2018.
Analysed by destination, merchandise export to the Nine Provinces of the Pan Pearl River Delta (MOP1.80 billion) increased by 3.0% year-on-year in the first eleven months of 2018, but exports to Shanghai (MOP26 million) dropped by 85.1%, resulting in a 5.5% decrease in exports to Mainland China (MOP1.85 billion). Exports to Hong Kong (MOP6.95 billion) and the EU (MOP191 million) rose by 14.5% and 9.3% respectively, whereas exports to the USA (MOP120 million) declined by 31.1%. Meanwhile, exports to the Portuguese-speaking Countries (MOP25 million) surged by 3,510.9% year-on-year, with that of Pharmaceutical products & organic chemicals jumping by 4,733.0%, whereas exports to the Belt & Road Countries outside of Greater China (MOP292 million) fell by 11.3%. Exports of Non-textiles went up by 10.0% year-on-year to MOP10.50 billion, of which value of Machines, apparatus & parts (MOP2.27 billion) grew by 84.8%, but that of Electronic components (MOP460 million) declined by 32.8%. Exports of Textiles & garments totalled MOP652 million, down by 22.0%.
By place of origin, merchandise import from Mainland China (MOP28.89 billion) and the EU (MOP20.46 billion) increased by 27.0% and 18.6% respectively year-on-year in the first eleven months of 2018. Moreover, imports from the Portuguese-speaking Countries (MOP722 million) and the Belt & Road Countries outside of Greater China (MOP7.11 billion) rose by 22.5% and 16.9% respectively. Analysed by place of consignment, merchandise import from Mainland China expanded by 14.6% year-on-year to MOP12.51 billion, of which imports from the Nine Provinces of the Pan Pearl River Delta (MOP12.13 billion) rose by 16.7%. Imports of Consumer goods went up by 18.6% to MOP52.91 billion, with imports of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products (MOP4.43 billion) and Motor cars & motorcycles (MOP1.94 billion) rising by 54.1% and 28.4% respectively; in addition, imports of Mobile phones (MOP6.77 billion), Fuels & lubricants (MOP6.74 billion) and Construction materials (MOP1.86 billion) grew by 74.0%, 15.8% and 11.4% respectively.
External merchandise trade totalled MOP93.36 billion from January to November 2018, up by 19.3% compared with MOP78.28 billion a year earlier.
