Macao devoting utmost effort to ushering Greater Bay Area development

The Government will spare no effort to implement initiatives explained in the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, following the blueprint’s official publication by the Central Government.

The Government has expressed its sincere gratitude to the Central Government for its support and guidance regarding giving full play to Macao’s designated roles in the context of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area). The Government particularly appreciated the Central Government adopting the Government’s suggestions in formulating the Outline Development Plan.

Complementary and coordinated partnership with other Greater Bay Area cities would create a more favourable environment for Macao in realising its goal of adequate economic diversification.

The Greater Bay Area is a city cluster formed by nine cities in Guangdong Province – namely Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing – plus the two Special Administrative Regions – Hong Kong and Macao.

The Outline Development Plan has 11 chapters, covering general principles, strategic positions, development goals and spatial layout. It specifies how to press ahead with development of an international science and technology innovation centre; expedition of infrastructure connectivity within Greater Bay Area cities; and how to develop a quality urban environment with favourable conditions for everyday living, working and travel.

Following the publication of the Greater Bay Area blueprint, the Government is to organise symposiums and seminars to publicise its contents within the Macao community in a bid to encourage the local contribution to the city-cluster initiative.

Meanwhile, the Government would pay close attention to any future measures introduced by the Central Government that might support Macao residents’ involvement in the Greater Bay Area.
