MGTO promotes Macao at Guangzhou International Travel Fair

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) takes part in Guangzhou International Travel Fair 2019 held from 21 to 23 February, to enhance Macao’s profile as a diverse travel destination and deepen cooperation among travel industry operators from Guangdong and Macao, embracing the occasion to expand visitor source markets and connections with the international travel trade.

Together with 41 industry delegates representing 21 enterprises including hotels, travel agencies as well as travel & MICE venue operators from Macao, MGTO participates in Guangzhou International Travel Fair 2019 currently held at China Import & Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou. MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes and Head of Destination Marketing Department, Betty Fok, attended the opening ceremony together with others today (21 February).

This year, MGTO runs a 180-square-meter booth themed around the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region and “Experience Macao Your Own Style” to showcase the diversity of travel experiences offered by Macao, from the World Heritage Site, events and festivals to culinary delights, to delegates and visitors from across Mainland China and the world. The booth promotes Macao’s two glamorous calling cards, the Historic Centre of Macao and the Creative City of Gastronomy, with Macao Tourism Mascot “MAK MAK” bringing out a fresh image of the destination. The booth staff provides travel information and promotional materials for local visitors, while Macao industry delegates discuss business opportunities with their counterparts at the Fair.

Riding on the occasion, Director Senna Fernandes and MGTO delegates met with Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, Wang Dong, Director of Guangzhou Municipal Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism Bureau, Liu Yumei, and Commissioner for Tourism of Tourism Commission of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Joe Wong, among others, to deepen tourism exchange and cooperation between the three destinations.

Founded in 1993, the Guangzhou International Travel Fair is reputed one of China’s most influential international professional travel exhibitions. The event has arrived at the 27th edition in 2019. Last year, the Fair attracted over 1,000 enterprises from 53 countries and regions and admitted over 170,000 visitors, a rise of 24% from 2017.

Through organizing Macao industry delegations to join travel fairs, destination presentation seminars and travel marts, MGTO seeks to enhance industry exchange and cooperation and further expand the diversity of visitor source markets in parallel with the goal to transform Macao into a world centre of tourism and leisure.
