IPIM Holds Workshop to Enhance MICE Sector’s Bidding Success Rate

Speakers of the MICE Bidding Strategy Workshop and the participants

The Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) held the MICE Bidding Strategy Workshop today (27 Feb), which was participated by more than 50 representatives of Macao hotels, exhibitions and convention centres, professional congress organisers, destination management companies and MICE associations. Participants reported gratifying results of joining this workshop, which was able to lift the sector’s professionalism and capability in bidding for events.

As the department designated to coordinate the development of Macao’s MICE industry, IPIM has been fortifying local MICE industry and supporting the growth of the sector through various channels. This workshop was moderated by Mr Mike Williams–IPIM’s consultant in convention and exhibition area who has more than 30 years of experience in international convention and exhibition marketing and management–with emphasis placed on how to bid for international conventions to be staged in Macao. According to Mr Williams, since Macao has all-round advantages in hosting conferences and exhibitions, and the city has sufficient venues that meet all different needs, local MICE industry should play an even more active part in bidding for international conferences to be held in Macao. In addition, Senior Manager from Sands Resorts Mr Augustus Leung and Project Director & Partner from Macau Expo Group Limited Mr Andrew Jiang were invited to the workshop to share their experience in successfully bidding for international conferences.

As remarked by some of the participants, this workshop introduced them to more knowledge and techniques of bidding for conferences, which allowed them to draw wisdom from successful experience shared by the speakers in order to bring in more international MICE activities to Macao. Participants were also satisfied that this workshop enhanced the network and collaboration within the MICE industry.
