Secretary to attend U.N. Human Rights Council meeting

The Secretary for Administration and Justice, Ms Chan Hoi Fan, is to attend a meeting of the United Nations (U.N.) Human Rights Council, to be held on 15 March in Geneva, Switzerland.

Ms Chan attends the meeting as deputy head of the Chinese delegation. The Friday gathering is due to discuss and adopt China's third report under the Universal Periodic Review mechanism. Part of that report covers the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR).

In November 2018, the Council held a meeting to examine the third report submitted by China. At that time, Macao officials answered questions – raised by delegates respectively from the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Ireland – regarding the MSAR Government’s work relating to prevention of drug abuse and to anti-discrimination legislation.

Other Macao officials included in the Chinese delegation for Friday’s meeting are: the Director of the Legal Affairs Bureau, Mr Liu Dexue; and Ms Chu Lam Lam, Advisor to the Office of the Secretary for Administration and Justice.
