Consumer Council starts its annual assessment on ‘Certified Shop’

The Consumer Council has started its 2018 assessment on its “Adherents” and “Certified Shops”. The first phase of on-site evaluation serves to reflect the performance of “Adherents” and “Certified Shops”, and suggestions will be given to them to ensure their quality services.

Over 1,400 shops to be evaluated

On-site evaluation is a major part of the assessment of the “Certified Shop” mechanism, a set of guiding principles has been set up for evaluating the shops and shops are required to have clear price labeling, staff with quality and polite service, and a mechanism for resolving problems; certain industries are also required to follow the “Code of Practice” set up for them. The Council indicates that continuous evaluation encourages shops to review on their own and make improvements, therefore each shop is being evaluated for an average of at least twice in a year to ensure that quality service are provided to consumers and consumer rights are safeguarded.

The first phase of on-site evaluation for the next year has started, the Council’s staff will visit over 1,400 “Adherents” and “Certified Shops” to carry out the on-site evaluation, scores will be verified, suggestions will also be given to shops at a later stage.

Teammates specially trained

The evaluating team teammates have been specially trained to carry out the on-site evaluation based on a set of scientific, systematic, and objective assessment criteria. All teammates will be wearing their own badges when working, shops are welcome to inquire about the assessment by calling 8988-7333.

Shops with passing grades will be awarded “Certified Shop” emblems

The assessment criteria include on-site evaluation, mystery shoppers, and complaint records from other government departments, etc. The “Certified Shop” mechanism has been established for 17 years and has developed into a shopping guarantee to consumers, it is also a brand that the SAR Government promotes and recommends to tourists.
