Exhibition “Determined Spirit – Calligraphy and Painting of Fu Shen” opens Monday at the Macao Museum of Art

Organized by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM, from the Portuguese acronym) of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government, and co-organized by the Chinese Cultural Exchange Association, the exhibition “Determined Spirit – Calligraphy and Painting of Fu Shen” will be inaugurated on Monday, 23 October, at 6:30pm, on the 4th floor of the MAM. All are welcome.

Fu Shen is a renowned art historian, connoisseur of calligraphy and painting, painter and calligrapher. He was born in Shanghai. He moved with his parents to Taiwan when he was young, and is currently residing in Taipei. He worked as a research fellow at the Palace Museum in Taipei, as a curator at the Department of Chinese Arts at the Freer and Sackler Galleries in the United States and as a professor at the Institute of Art History at the Taiwan University. He is internationally renowned connoisseur of calligraphy and painting and is an expert in Zhang Daqian’s works.

This exhibition features 68 painting and calligraphy works by Fu Shen made throughout his life. The artist uses strong strokes, semi-cursive and seal script in his works, encapsulating all of the wisdom he acquired in the last decades through his work in art history research and authentication of painting and calligraphy works. The exhibition runs from 24 October to 19 November.

The Macao Museum of Art is located at Avenida Xian Xing Hai, NAPE, and is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10am to 7pm, including public holidays (no admission after 6:30pm) and closes on Mondays.
