The tickets for the 31st Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), went on sale on 6 August (Sunday). A large number of people waited at different ticket offices to purchase tickets. Sales were well-received as over 5,000 tickets were sold on the first day of ticket sales, and the percentage of the ticket sales for most of the shows were more than 60%.
The 31st MIMF will be held from 29 September to 30 October, offering 17 programmes to be presented in a total of 20 performances. At 8:30am on the first day of ticket sales, IC sent staff to maintain public order at the ticket offices, who distributed queuing vouchers at 9am for the convenience of the buyers. Nearly 370 vouchers in total were distributed in an orderly manner.
Themed ‘Rising Stars’, this year’s festival received an enthusiastic response from the public. On the first day of sales, tickets for el fog (Masayoshi Fujita) and the Guimarães String Quartet were sold out; also, all the tickets for the free admission concert Sicilian Chants were distributed, and tickets for the Novus String Quartet, one of the leading chamber ensembles of South Korea, as well as for the performances The Golden Peak and Timeless Beethoven, presented by the Vienna Philharmonic were almost sold out. A Fragrant Dream, The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Soweto Gospel Choir and Lukas Geniušas were also popular among music fans.
Ticket sales for the 31st MIMF’s grand opening show, opera Andrea Chénier and for the local musicians concert series Bravo Macao! were satisfactory. Andrea Chénier is a masterpiece by Italian composer Umberto Giordano, about a love story during the tumultuous times of the French Revolution between the patriotic poet Andrea Chénier and Maddalena who falls in love with Chénier because of a brilliant verse he improvised. Bravo Macao!, presented by local young performers Lo Cheng Io, Suiong Wong, Leong Cheok Wun and Ho Chun, who will perform different styles of works, showcasing their music talent and artistic achievements. The public is advised to purchase their tickets as soon as possible as tickets are limited.
An early bird discount of 30% for the 31st MIMF tickets is offered from now on until 13August. During this period, purchasers can enjoy the discount when buying tickets for four different performances or ten or more tickets for the same performance in one purchase, or by presenting a valid full-time Student Card or Macao Teacher Card. A 50% discount will be available for holders of Macao Senior Citizen Card or Disability Assessment Registration Card. BOC cardholders will receive a 30% discount on tickets for the designated programmeswhile holders of designated credit cards will enjoy a 20% off on other programmes.
