The 2019 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2019MIECF), hosted by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region, will be held from March 28 to 30 under the theme of “Promoting Ecological Civilization and Green Development” at the Venetian Macao. Joined by more than 500 exhibitors from nearly twenty countries and regions, the Green Forums will continue to act as a promoter for the information exchange of ecological development among different regions. There will be eight Green Forums and a Keynote Speaker Special Session with around 70 speakers from various countries and regions sharing their insights into ways toward ecological civilization, green finance, and other international frontier environmental issues.
The 2019MIECF enjoys the support of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment as the Special Supporting Organizations. Coordinated by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute and the Macao Environmental Protection Bureau, MIECF is also co-organized by the provincial/regional governments of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region. This year’s MIECF will continue to serve as an international green platform, supporting the Belt and Road Initiative and the implementation of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, to take the Pan-Pearl River Delta co-operation further. As Macao is the cooperation platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, the 2019MIECF aims at promoting the exchanges and cooperation on environmental protection among governments, industries, universities, research institutes, users, and financial sectors. Witness the New Power of Green Economy
As an important international green platform, the 2019MIECF is a combination of the Green Forums and the Green Showcases. In the Forum part, eight Green Forums and one Keynote Speaker Special Session will be held during March 28 and 29. The Forum is honored to have Mr. Michael Liebreich, founder of New Energy Finance, former chairman of the advisory board at Bloomberg New Energy Finance and senior contributor, and chairman and CEO of Liebreich Associates, as keynote speaker. At the opening ceremony of 2019MIECF, he will share his thoughts on how green economy and industry upgrade can direct cities to a sustainable path. On the second day of the event (March 29), Mr. Michael Liebreich will have closer interaction with participants at the Special Session set in the afternoon and share his view on the state of the green industry.
The Forum has invited some 70 speakers from five countries of Mainland China, the Netherlands, Portugal, East Timor, the United Kingdom, and two regions of Hong Kong (China) and Macao (China). These green pioneers, senior leaders of multinational enterprises, and policy makers will speak on topics including the “ways toward ecological civilization”, “developing green energy”, “urban water treatment”, and “green finance”, sharing with us their insights into corporate strategy, industry trends, and policy updates.
Among all activities, the Green Business Co-operation Day set on the first day (March 28) includes a Green Forum and a Business Exchange Session. Under the theme “New Opportunities in the Eco Bay Area - Creating Green Energy Cities”, the Forum focuses on the development of green energy and green finance in the Greater Bay Area and Portuguese-speaking countries. On the afternoon of March 29, the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Session will invite members of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Delegation to Portugal and Luxembourg arranged by the Macao government to share the their experience and findings during the visit. There will also be a roundtable discussion on creating green values through ecological civilization presented by Pan-Pearl River Delta Region eco-corporate pioneers. The development status of environmental protection in Mainland China will also be introduced then.
Debut of the Greenovation Zone
The 2019MIECF covers an area of over 16,900 square meters, joined by more than 500 exhibitors mainly coming from Mainland China, countries along the Belt and Road route, European countries, and Portuguese-speaking countries. Green solutions that help create ecological cities and curb the pollution of air, water, and soil will be introduced with emphasis. Designed specifically for green innovative technologies and green innovative projects, the MIECF will launch the Greenovation Zone this year. Demonstrations and exchange activities will be arranged in this zone to mainstream the application and exchange of green innovative technologies.
In the meantime, to uphold the co-operative principle of “Ecological Priority, Green Development”, the Greater Bay Area Eco-Products and Solutions Pavilion will be expanded, showcasing products and services of leading eco-enterprises from Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Foshan, and Zhongshan, so as to foster cooperation in environmental protection area. The Green Building Area will demonstrate and highlight green building techniques and products, allowing the construction industry to find suitable professional partners.
On the internationally focused topic of Green Finance Innovation, the Forum has arranged the Green Finance Networking event, for the promotion of exchanges on green investment projects, serving the green finance development in the Greater Bay Area. Also, the Official Guided Tour will continue to be arranged. Besides the Tour, representatives from the government will also meet with exhibitors and participants for broader and deeper communication. For this purpose, a promotion session on Local Green Products will be conducted before the Tour, where representatives of environmental protection associations from Macao will introduce government officials to the exhibiting association members and their products/services, as well as relevant information in advance.
The final day of MIECF (March 30) is the Green Public Day, when the Green Showcase is open to the public free of charge , allowing the general public to have more understanding of environmental protection around the world, as well as the latest information and technologies on environmental protection. Promotional and educational activities related to environmental protection will also be available to increase public awareness of adopting an environmental-friendly lifestyle.
To facilitate green mobility, MIECF will offer free shuttle buses on four routs travelling between the MIECF venue and the the central district, northern district and Taipa. The MIECF has been an event approved by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) since 2011, and it won the Outstanding Exhibition Award of the Macao Convention and Exhibition Commendation Awards in 2017. The Forum has been endeavoring to improve and optimize the supporting services. Up to 320 project agreements and letters of intent have been signed through the MIECF – an international professional green platform –over the past 11 years.
