“Photo-Scripts – Photography Exhibition by João Miguel Barros”, organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, was inaugurated on 12 April, at 6:30pm, at the Macao Contemporary Art Centre – Navy Yard No.1. The opening ceremony was held in a lively atmosphere and was officiated by the Consul-General of Portugal in Macao and Hong Kong, Paulo Jorge Sousa da Cunha Alves; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Mok Ian Ian; the Deputy Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R., Liu Wei; the Director of the Department of Public Diplomacy and Information of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macao S.A.R., Zheng Xinyou; the President of the General Assembly of the Photographic Society of Macao, Ma Chi Son; the curator and artist, Jose Drummond; and the artist João Miguel Barros.
The President of IC, Mok Ian Ian said in her speech that the artist and the lawyer, João Miguel Barros has unique world view and artistic view. He observes and experiences life through his lenses, so as to inspire the audiences to gaze at their chores and discover underlying implications.
The exhibits are organised in 12 individual short stories, which share a mutual connection with each other. Aluminium composite frames have been chosen to display the photos, in order to grant the works a deeper sense of artistic expression. The images will be presented next to textual narratives so that the two elements are mutually complementary. The photos, often themselves a past memory or self-reflection of the artist, inspire observers and entice them to explore their own philosophy of life.
“Photo-Scripts – Photography Exhibition by João Miguel Barros” will be held from 13 April to 2 June at the Macao Contemporary Art Centre - Navy Yard No.1, open from 10am to 7pm daily including on public holidays (except on Monday). Admission is free. For more information regarding the exhibition, please call IC through tel. 8988 4000 during office hours.
