CE to visit Portugal from 11 to 19 May

At the invitation of the Portuguese Republic, the Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, will lead a Government delegation to visit the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, and the city of Porto, during the period of 11 to 19 May.

While in Lisbon, Mr Chui is to have a meeting with Portugal’s Prime Minister, Mr António Costa, for discussions about continuance of the two sides’ friendly relationship and about fostering fresh bilateral ties.

Mr Chui and Portugal’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Augusto Santos Silva, will co-chair in Lisbon – during the visit – the sixth meeting of the Macao-Portugal Joint Committee.

While the Macao delegation is in Lisbon, the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will act as host for a photo exhibition and a reception to mark the 20th anniversary of the SAR’s establishment. Mr Chui and members of the delegation will meet with young people from Macao studying in Portugal, in order better to understand the needs they have while they live and study in this overseas setting.

Upon completion of the Lisbon portion of the trip, the Chief Executive will visit Porto to sign a memorandum of understanding and be honoured with the symbolic granting of the “Key to the City”.

The Macao-Portugal Joint Committee was established under the Framework Agreement of Cooperation between the Macao SAR of the People’s Republic of China and the Portuguese Republic, with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the two sides in a number of areas.

The fifth meeting of the Macao-Portugal Joint Committee was held in Macao, in October 2018. The fourth such meeting was held in Portugal in 2016 during a previous visit to the country by Mr Chui.
