Macao Orchestra presents “Easter Concert - Handel’s Oratorio: Messiah”

The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will present the “Easter Concert – Handel’s Oratorio: Messiah”, part of the Maestros with Charisma series, at St. Dominic’s Church at 8pm on 20 April (Saturday). Under the baton of OM’s Music Director Lu Jia, the orchestra will join hands with four remarkable vocalists from South Korea and the Taipei Philharmonic Choir to perform excerpts from the Messiah, a timeless masterpiece by Handel. Admission is free.

Handel’s ‘Messiah’ has always been the top classic amongst oratorios throughout the ages, as well as a monumental achievement in the history of Western religious music. The heavenly choral style, lively and vivid musical depiction together with a splendid climax and conclusion are not only regarded as typical characteristics of Handel’s oratorios, but also have far-reaching influence over later works. Tickets will be distributed at St. Dominic’s Church one hour prior to the performance and each person may obtain a maximum of two tickets on a first-come-first-served basis.

In addition, the concert “Brahms’s Double Concerto” under the ‘Art Macao’ event series, originally scheduled to be held at St. Dominic’s Church at 8pm on 28 June 2019 (Friday), will be relocated to the Dom Pedro V Theatre at 8pm on 30 June 2019 (Sunday) due to maintenance of the church; the performance line-up will remain unchanged. Ticket distribution information will be announced soon. For details and enquiries about the programme, please call (853) 2853 0782 during office hours or visit the Macao Orchestra’s webpage at www.icm.gov.mo/om.
