The initial review of the 2018 Support Programme for the Production of Feature Films, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), has recently been completed and a total of nine entrants were selected for the Programme’s second review. The final beneficiaries will receive not only financial support, but also advice from veteran film professionals, for the production, marketing and promotion of the feature films.
The 2018 Support Programme for the Production of Feature Films aims to continuously promote the development of the Macao’s film industry, cultivate local filmmaking talents, enhance the professional production capacity of the local film industry, and encourage filmmakers to get involved in feature film productions, thus spawning more local cinematic works with full creativity. A total of 13 applications were received in the 2018 Subsidy Programme, of which one application was disqualified. The professional adjudicating panel selected a list of eligible applicants for the second review (in arbitrary order): Lam Kin Kuan, Vong Tin Leong, Ao Ieong Weng Fong, Lou Ka Hou, Maxim Bessmertnyi, Choi Ian Sin, Io Lou Ian, Wong Teng Teng and Ferreira, Félix Marques.
The selected applicants are required to submit the “Application Form for the Second Review of the 2018 Support Programme for the Production of Feature Films” (Chinese, English or Portuguese version), complete script (Chinese and English or Portuguese and English versions) and related documents, as well as a PowerPoint presentation in the form of CD-Rom. The adjudication panel will review and select a maximum of four final beneficiaries based on the criteria including contents, creativity and completeness of script, applicant and film crew’s implementing capacity, feasibility of film production plan, promotion and marketing plan, degree of perfection of the whole project planning and overall budget rationale. The second review also encompasses an interview conducted by the adjudication panel with the applicants and members of the film crew, after which eligible applicants will receive a subsidy of up to MOP15,000 for the cost of the translation of the completed script. Each final beneficiary will receive a subsidy of up to MOP2,000,000 and professional advice from veteran film professionals, for the production, promotion and marketing of the selected feature film.
