Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 56 institutions offering vocational training courses in 2018, a decrease of 1 compared with 2017. A total of 1,761 courses were organised, up by 4.5% year-on-year. Total number of participants rose by 3.3% to 68,686.
Analysed by course type, Business & Administration courses had the highest number of participants, at 21,356 (31.1% of total), followed by Tourism, Gaming & MICE Events courses and Language courses, with 7,520 (10.9%) and 6,634 (9.7%) participants respectively; number of participants attending Beauty & Hair Design courses surged by 119.9% year-on-year to 1,878. The overall course completion rate was 87.8%, up by 5.3 percentage points.
Among the 1,761 vocational training courses, 722 were organised for enterprises or institutions, down by 3.5% year-on-year. Number of participants grew by 13.8% to 30,682, with the majority taking Business & Administration courses, at 37.8% (11,612); participants taking Tourism, Gaming & MICE Events courses (4,969) and Language courses (4,822) made up 16.2% and 15.7% respectively of the total.
Survey on Vocational Training covers institutions that offered vocational training courses. Information on course types and participants are collected with the aim to understand the provision of and resident participation in vocational training in Macao.
