MGTO runs a Macao Pavilion at Asian Culture and Tourism Exhibition in Beijing
The Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations (CDAC), initiated by President Xi Jinping, was grandly unveiled in Beijing, the capital of China, on 15 May to showcase the latest cultural tourism trends in China and across Asia through themed exhibitions, tourism presentations, cultural performances, cultural tourism forums, product discussions and other highlights under the topic of “Exchanges and Mutual Learning among Asian Civilizations and a Community with a Shared Future”. Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) attended the Asian Culture and Tourism Exhibition, the Chinese Cultural Tourism Promotion Seminar and the Asian Food and Human Civilization Forum among other activities in Beijing on 16 and 17 May. The Office rode on the occasion to organize the “Travel Trade Dinner in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region” to enhance mutual exchange and share the latest tourism situation in Macao with members of the travel trade and the press in Beijing.
MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong and Head of Destination Marketing Department of MGTO, Betty Fok, attended the series of activities in Beijing with other MGTO delegates. By running a booth at the Asian Culture and Tourism Exhibition, joining the forum and organizing the trade networking dinner, MGTO stepped up to share Macao’s latest tourism situation. As part of the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations, the Asian Culture and Tourism Exhibition was inaugurated yesterday (16 May). MGTO ran a 72-square-meter Macao Pavilion featuring display of photos and videos, a VR experience zone and a lucky draw for visitors to experience the unique and diverse glamour of Macao as a travel destination.
Themed after “Beautiful China Night˙Explore the Silk Road”, the Chinese Cultural Tourism Promotion Seminar promoted the Mainland’s cultural tourism resources among guests from near and afar, with the aim to deepen mutual understanding between the Mainland and other Asian countries and draw Asian visitors of wider profiles to the Mainland.
MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong attended the Asian Food and Human Civilization Forum this morning (17 May) as a guest speaker and shared with delegates from various places the experience of Macao in its development and work planning as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy and tasks on hand to push forward sustainable gastronomic development.
During the mission in Beijing, MGTO hosted a “Travel Trade Dinner in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region” today (17 May) and shared the latest tourism development in Macao. About 80 guests attended the dinner including Director of the Representative Office of the Macao Special Administrative Region in Beijing, Nadia Leong, MGTO Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong, Head of Destination Marketing Department of MGTO, Betty Fok, Consultant of the Department of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, Zhang Dong, Assistant to the Director General of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Li Yang, as well as representatives of the travel trade and the press in Beijing.
In speaking at the dinner, Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong expressed that similar to Beijing, Macao is leading a new progress in the tourism industry through integration of culture and tourism. With two glamorous calling cards – “the Historic Centre of Macao” and the designation as a “UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy”, Macao is steering the tourism and related industries towards a new milestone for development, injecting a new impetus into the city’s transformation into a world centre of tourism and leisure while fostering the city’s diversified and sustainable development. Tourism developments along the Belt and Road and across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as well as the inauguration of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge have opened up a myriad of new possibilities for Macao. MGTO hopes to seize the opportunities together with Mainland provinces and municipalities, capitalizing on the convenience brought by various tourism transportations and infrastructure to expand the diversity of visitor source markets together through multi-destination travel.
From January to March 2019, Macao welcomed over 130,000 visitors from Beijing, one of the major visitor source markets in the Mainland, a year-on-year surge of 16.8%. Riding on the series of promotion activities in Beijing, MGTO promoted Macao’s World Heritage Site, gastronomic culture, events and festivals, latest development and celebrations for the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region among delegates and visitors from across Mainland China and different countries in Asia.
