Seminar on “EU Current Political Changes and Challenges – Update on EU’s Internal Developments, EU-China and EU-Macao Relations”


The seminar on “EU Current Political Changes and Challenges - Update on EU’s Internal Developments, EU-China and EU-Macao Relations” will take place on May 30th from 9:30am to 12:30pm in the auditorium of the Legal Affairs Bureau (DSAJ) located on Alameda Dr. Carlos D’ Assumpção n.° 398, CNAC Building, 6th floor. The seminar aims at deepening the legal practitioners’ and the general public’s understanding of the European Union and the latest condition of its relationship with China and the Macao SAR. This training is co-organised by the DSAJ and the Institute of European Studies of Macau.

The seminar is integrated as part of the 3rd Macao Special Administrative Region - EU Co-operation Programme in the Legal Field and will be conducted in English with simultaneous interpretation to Cantonese. The event will feature the following speakers:

1. Prof. Miguel Maduro, Director of EU Governance Programme at the European University Institute in Florence and former Minister of the Portuguese Government and Advocate-General at the European Court of Justice;

2. Mr. José Luís de Sales Marques, President of the Institute of European Studies of Macau;

3. Prof. Song Weiqing, University of Macau, Jean Monnet Chair in International Relations.

This seminar will address the following themes:

  • EU in General Update;
  • EU – China Relationship;
  • EU – Macao Relationship.

The 3rd Co-operation Programme in the Legal Field between the Macao Special Administrative Region and the European Union is going to take place until November 2019. The execution of the Co-operation Programme is coordinated by the Legal Affairs Bureau, together with many entities and public departments of the Macao Special Administrative Region, namely the Legal and Judicial Training Centre, the Institute of European Studies of Macau, the Economic Services, the Consumer Council and the Social Welfare Bureau.
