Press conference on the “10th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum”

The 10th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) will be held at the Venetian Macao from May 30 to 31. At this edition of IIICF, the Principal Steering Unit of the Steering Committee of IIICF are the Ministry of Commerce of the Republic of China and the Macao Special Administrative Region Government; the Special Steering Unit is the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; the Member Units are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Development and Reform Commission, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council. The event is collaboratively organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the China International Contractors Association. The IIICF Organisers held a press conference today (27 May), where IPIM’s Executive Director Sam Lei and the Vice President of the China International Contractors Association Yu Xiaohong introduced the preparation works for the IIICF.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the IIICF, which features the theme “Promoting Quality and Sustainable Development of International Infrastructure”. It is estimated that the 10th IIICF will be joined by more than 750 organisations and over 2,000 political, commercial and academic representatives from more than 70 countries and regions, and over 50 government officials above minister-level from near 40 countries and regions. This year, IIICF will offer a number of thematic forums, parallel forums and penal sessions, as well as exhibitions, project presentation and matching sessions. All of these highlights serve as the tools for the IIICF to construct an exchange platform, reinforce Macao’s position as the “Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” and the influence thereof, deepen Macao’s participation in the infrastructure collaboration among the “Belt and Road” countries and regions.

According to IPIM’s Executive Director Sam Lei, this year’s IIICF offers the launch ceremony of the IIICF Steering Committee and the Mainland China-Macao Belt and Road Business and Professional Services Council. The establishment of these committees indicates the support for Macao to participate in the development of the “Belt and Road” via the IIICF and to nurture the city’s diversified economic development. In the meantime, the IIICF also attaches great importance on the connection and commercial collaboration between Macao’s industries and their counterparts worldwide and in Mainland China. So the Forum will also offer the “Macao and Mainland Enterprise Networking Reception”, aiming to motivate Macao enterprises to engage in more international co-operation. In last December, IPIM collaborated with the China International Contractors Association and organised more than 60 representatives of Macao enterprises and mainland enterprises to visit some of the infrastructure projects in Myanmar and Thailand. It is estimated that similar activities will take place this August in order to maximise the efficacy of the IIICF and advance Macao’s participation in the construction of the “Belt and Road”, while enhancing participating enterprises’ sense of gain.

Vice President of the China International Contractors Association Yu Xiaohong said that the 10th IIICF is putting the results of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Co-operation into action. The IIICF is making concrete efforts to push forward the qualitative and sustainable development of the “Belt and Road”. During the IIICF, the Belt and Road Infrastructure Development Index (2019) and the Annual Report on the Belt and Road Infrastructure Development Index (2019) will be released, wherein adds the report on China’s participation in Portuguese-speaking countries’ infrastructure development. These documents serve as professional references for enterprises from China, “Belt and Road” countries and Macao to evaluate the prospect and opportunities of China-PSC infrastructure collaboration.

Since 2012, the International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum has been successfully staged in Macao for seven consecutive years. The previous edition of IIICF embraced a fruitful result, where the signings of 17 co-operation agreements were facilitated by 14 themed forums and parallel forums as well as 160 business meetings and matching sessions. The 9th IIICF was joined by over 1,800 from over 66 countries and regions, including 56 officials above ministerial level and over 630 companies relevant to the 2017 Fortune 500, financial and investment institutions, contractors, consultation services providers, industrial chain services providers from home and abroad.
