On the afternoon of May 23, Fu Ziying, the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR (LOCPG) visited the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and Im Sio Kei, President of MPI gave a warm welcome to the delegation on the afternoon of May 23. Fu Ziying listened to the teaching and research development of MPI, and held a meeting with the management team of MPI. Fu Ziying mentioned that MPI has distinctive characteristics, is continuously innovating in development, and actively integrating into the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the overall development of the country. The LOCPG will continue to support the high-level education and scientific research of MPI. Xue Xiaofeng, the Deputy Director of LOCPG also attended the visit and the meeting.
In the meeting, Im Sio Kei reported the schooling characteristics, co-operation platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, and scientific research achievements to Fu Ziying, and also extended thanks to the LOCPG for the long-term support of MPI. Im Sio Kei said that MPI will continue to strengthen cooperation with the mainland China and the international community, and further increase investment in scientific research and innovation, in order to assist in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the international innovation and technology hub.
Fu Ziying highly praised MPI’s remarkable progress in the 20 years since the return of Macao to the motherland, emphasising that MPI has an important position in the development of higher education in Macao. Fu Ziying pointed out that MPI is a higher education institution with high-quality students as well as continuous improvement and innovation in terms of quality and scientific research strength. He praised MPI for actively participating in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the overall development of the country, and training a large number of talents who love the country and Macao, to make positive contributions to the social and economic development of Macao and the successful implementation of “one country, two systems”. Fu Ziying encouraged MPI to strengthen the development of the theory and practice of “one country, two systems”, and the development of academic disciplines including Chinese-Portuguese Translation and Interpretation, Sino-Lusophone Trade Relations, Gaming Teaching and Research, etc. MPI will be able to play an active role in the construction of the “Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”, and exert a positive effect on the healthy development of the gaming industry of Macao. He also encouraged MPI to keep up the good work, to stay informed and feel the pulse of society. The LOCPG will continue to support MPI always.
Fu Ziying and his delegation also visited and learned about the affairs and operations of the Macao Polytechnic Institute Student Union (MPISU), and had a friendly conversation with the international students from Portuguese-speaking countries studying at MPI. Fu Ziying encouraged them to study hard to create a better future, and to make use of the learned Chinese language and professional knowledge to experience Chinese culture and social development in the mainland China first-hand. The students thanked him for the encouragement. The delegation visited the Chinese-Portuguese-English Machine Translation Laboratory and other research facilities to interact with the research teams of MPI.
