The Anim’Arte NAM VAN, jointly developed by the Macao Government Tourism Office, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the Sports Bureau and the Institute for Tourism Studies, under the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, has provided residents and tourists with diverse services and experiences in cultural tourism and leisure. The exhibition “LAKE UP GRAFFITI JAM” was inaugurated on 12 July, at 6:30pm, at the Anim’Arte NAM VAN, featuring a graffiti display area dedicated to the theme “Joy for All”. All are welcome to visit and take photos.
The opening ceremony was officiated by the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian; the Executive Vice President of the Macau Artist Society, Sio In Leong; the President of the Macau Association for Community Care Children, Rosalina Anok Novo; French graffiti artist CEET and local graffiti artist MCZ. The exhibition “LAKE UP GRAFFITI JAM” is co-organized by the IC and the Macau Artist Society, inviting French graffiti artist CEET and local graffiti artist MCZ to jointly decorate the Nam Van Lakeside Plaza with their creative artworks, injecting cultural and creative atmosphere in that area.
Born in France, CEET is a world-leading contemporary graffiti artist known for his bold interplay of colours and lettering in wild style — the prevailing style of contemporary graffiti. CEET likes to present his artworks through a variety of mediums, such as murals, sculptures, graphic design and canvases, sharing his life experiences and sincere attitude towards life. CEET has resided in China since 2003 and is active in various exhibitions and artistic projects, and worked as an artistic ambassador for a number of internationally renowned brands. Born in Macao, MCZ uses modern concept of graffiti art to create artistic characters such as the yellow smiley balloon on the murals, as well as other installations and sculptures, bringing joy to the public through the artworks in different parts of the city.
This graffiti display, themed “Joy for All”, features two characters, namely the colourful chicken and the “Happy Zai” created by CEET and MCZ, respectively. The two artists seek to present a combination of different elements, such as the innocent smile, an elf of positive energy and a guardian of happiness, through the common language “graffiti art”. In addition, the graffiti artists, in collaboration with the Macau Association for Community Care Children, invite four families to participate in artistic creation, thus giving them an opportunity to learn the graffiti art and creative skills.
IC has invited local artists to exhibit creative works in the Anim’Arte NAM VAN graffiti display area since 2016, and will continue to make use of the area to promote graffiti art by forging further collaborations with different artists.
