31st Macao Arts Festival calls for proposals of local programmes

The 31st Macao Arts Festival (MAF), organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be held in May 2020. In order to promote the development of local arts and provide a platform for performing art and artistic exchange, IC invites all registered local associations and individuals to submit proposals of local programmes until 16 August. The selected works will be included in next year’s Macao Arts Festival.

Non-profit art and cultural associations that are registered at the Identification Services Bureau of the Macao SAR or individuals aged 18 or above with a valid Macao SAR Resident Identification Documents are now invited to submit programme proposal for the 31st Macao Arts Festival. In order to expand the platform for local performing arts and attract more programmes with creativity and local features, Cantonese Opera has been added in the category “Programme showcase” in addition to theatre, dance, children’s shows, and multimedia performing arts. Priority will be given to works focusing on topics of local people’s concerns and current cityscape, cross-disciplinary theatres breaking through the conventional spectator-performer relationship, and productions inspired by local intangible cultural heritage or traditional Chinese performing arts. Meanwhile, the popular community performance “Performing Arts Gala” will also call for proposals of programmes.

Interested local associations and individuals can submit registration form and programme proposal. Regulations and application forms of the call for proposals can be downloaded from the IC website at www.icm.gov.mo. Application forms and relevant information should be submitted in person or by mail from 12 to 16 August, from 9:30am to 5:30pm (closed at lunch time) to the Cultural Affairs Bureau Building located at Tap Siac Square, indicating the following on the envelope and the cover: “Attn: Division of Performing Arts, Cultural Affairs Bureau, Call for Proposals of Local Programmes for the 31st Macao Arts Festival”.
