The 33rd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), will be held in October. This edition of the Festival, themed “The Instrumentalist”, brings music aficionados a musical feast with grandeur and bounding spirit and rhythmic melodies.
Tickets for this year’s Festival will be on sale from 4 August and IC is going to preview a series of rich and diverse highlighted programmes. The MIMF will kick off with Mozart’s classic opera The Magic Flute. Produced by the Komische Oper Berlin and the British theatre company “1927”, this innovative opera blends film animation and live singing, leading the audience into a magical fantasy world. In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China and in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the premiere of The Yellow River Cantata by Xian Xinghai, the Macao Orchestra will join hands with the China NCPA Orchestra and Chorus to present this signature piece with majestic momentum and tenacity as a wonderful closing tribute.
In addition, this edition of the Festival features a series of extraordinary programmes, including Billy Childs Quartet, in which the multi-Grammy Award jazz musician Billy Childs will join hands with three exceptional jazz musicians to present a mesmerising musical feast; the Dorian Wind Quintet from the United States, renowned for its exquisite and passionate performances, will present a repertoire of music ranging from classical to contemporary works; the world-acclaimed Vienna Philharmonic will return to Macao and, under the baton of the most sought-after Columbian-Austrian conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada, will perform Dvořák’s "New World" Symphony and the virtuosic Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the celebrated Chinese pianist Yuja Wang, not to be missed.
