The Translation Technology and Translation Project Management Workshop, jointly organized by the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), was successfully held between July 8 and 17 on the main campus of MPI. Teachers from the Chinese-Portuguese and Chinese-English Translation and Interpretation Programme of the School of Language and Translation (ESLT) participated in this workshop.
Mr. Han Lintao, head of the Localization Programme at the School of Translation and Interpreting, BLCU, gave a series of lectures on translation project management, translation technology and its application, translation education technology and translation technology course design. During a total of 50 hours of learning on 10 consecutive days, participating teachers not only learnt about the latest translation technologies, pedagogical methods and translation studies, but also enhanced their knowledge through activities and practice.
MPI is the only higher educational institution in Macao that offers the Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese-Portuguese Translation and Interpretation and the Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese-English Translation and Interpretation. Over the years, the Institute has trained many excellent interpreters and translators. With a history of more than a century, ESLT not only has accumulated profound knowledge and rich experience in this area, but also will continue to make brilliant achievements. In order to respond to the new demands on translation practice, and on teaching and research in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) era, ESLT organized this workshop to be better prepared to welcome the first batch of students of the M.A. in Chinese-Portuguese Translation and Interpreting in September. This event has certainly helped the teachers improve their ability in technology application and translation project management, so as to transform this century-old school into a training center for professional translators in the Greater Bay Area.
