“Art Macao” showcases the diversity of contemporary Chinese Art

Under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, “Art Macao”, a mega international arts and cultural event, is organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Macao Government Tourism Office and co-organized by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, the Higher Education Bureau, Galaxy Entertainment Group, Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, MGM, Sands China Ltd., Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (SJM), Wynn Macau, Limited, Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited and several foreign consulates, presenting various kinds of art and cultural activities including a number of timeless large-scale exhibitions of contemporary Chinese art, which showcase different art forms and have high ornamental value.

The main exhibition “Art Macao: International Art Exhibition” at the Macao Museum of Art, showcases artworks selected by hotels and integrated resorts, including paintings, ceramic, sculptures and multimedia presentations. The exhibition features a number of artworks by contemporary Chinese artists, including Wu Guanzhong, Wang Dongling, Caroline Cheng, Yang Yongliang and Wen Ma, presenting a good variety of creative forms that allows the audience to enjoy all sorts of artistic creations. The exhibition is open until 7 October. In addition, the exhibition “Beauty in the New Era: Masterpieces from the Collection of the National Art Museum of China”, organized by the Macao Museum of Art, features nearly 90 works by modern and contemporary famed artists, fully presenting the development of Chinese fine art along more than 100 years. The exhibition is open until 28 July. The Macao Museum of Art is open daily from 10am to 7pm (no admittance after 6:30pm) including public holidays and closes on Mondays.

The art exhibitions held in hotels and integrated resorts are equally rich and colorful: organized by Sands China Ltd. and curated by internationally acclaimed ceramic artist Caroline Cheng, “All That’s Gold Does Glitter – An Exhibition of Glamorous Ceramics” features masterpieces in unique style themed “All That’s Gold Does Glitter” by 27 first-class ceramic artists, which achieved mastery through a comprehensive study from both the East and the West. The exhibition is held at The Venetian Macao, Parisian Macao, Sands Macao and Four Seasons Hotel Macao, respectively. This exhibition is the largest and greatest international ceramic art exhibition in the Greater Bay Area in 2019. Organized by Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, S.A. (SJM), the exhibition “The Early Encounter of the East and the West – 20th Century Chinese Artists Abroad in France: ‘Unbroken Kite String – relationship between concrete and abstract – A tribute to Wu Guanzhong on His 100th Birth Anniversary’”, featured in the exhibition “ART • Appreciation • Legacy’ Art Exhibition”, presents artworks by Wu Guanzhong, a great master that combines the merits of Chinese and Western arts, from today to 30 July, at the Grand Lisboa Hotel; while the exhibition “Visions of Chinese Tradition” will be held from 1 to 30 August, also at the Grand Lisboa Hotel, presenting a series of artworks themed on China by modern lacquer masters, including Huang Guiwen and Xiong Jianxin, among others; the exhibition “Art in Motion - Video art from Portugal” will also be held from 1 to 30 August, at Grand Lisboa Hotel, Hotel Lisboa, Jai Alai Oceanus and Ponte 16. The works will be screened on the exterior screens, amplifying art exposure and allowing the audience to experience art in an all-round way.

Prominent activities of “Art Macao” also include three activities of the international youth festival launched by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, including the International Youth Music Festival 2019 “One Belt, One Road – Music throughout Macao”, the International Youth Dance Festival 2019 “Marvelous Dance for the 20th Anniversary of Macao's Return to the Motherland” and the International Youth Drama Festival 2019 “Integration into the Greater Bay Area, the Charm of Creative Art”. The music festival has already started, inviting youth orchestras and music groups from Macao and other countries and regions, who will present melodious music and spectacular diversified performances, adding multicultural charm to the city.
