The University of Macau’s (UM) this year continues to organise summer camps and summer programmes of different themes, including microelectronics, Chinese medical sciences, artificial intelligence, science promotion, biomedical sciences, Portuguese, and English, to help students discover their talents and interests. This year’s events attracted a total of nearly 1,000 local and overseas students.
UM’s Summer English Immersion Programme and Portuguese Language Summer Course (formerly known as the Portuguese Language Summer Programme) are among the most anticipated summer programmes. The Department of Portuguese at UM is the largest Portuguese department outside of Portugal and Brazil and is committed to producing bilingual language professionals proficient in Chinese and Portuguese. Launched in 1986, the Portuguese Language Summer Course has attracted students from around the world, including Japan, the United States, Brazil, Italy, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, and Singapore. With an emphasis on interaction and practice, the Summer English Immersion Programme includes various interactive activities designed to encourage participants to learn and use English in an immersive environment, thereby boosting their confidence when speaking English.
As two of the more popular summer camps, the biomedical sciences summer camp and the Chinese medical sciences camp will continue to take place this year. Participants in the camps will be able to learn about cancer cell, cell and molecular biology, and Chinese medical sciences, with the help of advanced laboratory equipment and experts at UM. UM this year offers a summer camp for primacy school students, the Primary Students STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) Summer Camp, for the first time. During the event, participants can learn more about scientific knowledge in everyday life through interactive games and scientific experiments. In addition, UM this year holds the State Key Lab of Microelectronic IC Design Experience Summer Camp for the first time. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about UM’s world-leading technology in microelectronics and the production of microchips.
