The 33rd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will open in October hosting a series of world-class audiovisual events. Tickets for the 33rd MIMF are now available and an enthusiastic response from the public has been received. The public is advised to purchase their tickets as soon as possible as tickets for some of the programmes are limited. In addition, the Festival features a number of outreach activities, allowing the audience to experience the beauty of music in different disciplines beyond the stage. Interested parties are welcome to participate.
The 33rd MIMF Outreach Programme is both rich and diverse: the community activity “Enjoy Music in Cinema” will feature a selection of four musical movies for free in early October, including Magic Flute and You, the Living, integrated in the “Nordic Movie Series”, and Blue Note Records: Beyond the Notes and Mo' Better Blues, integrated in the “Jazz Music Series”, followed by sharing sessions aimed at sharing musical experiences through different perspectives presented in the movies. Registrations for related events can be made online and by phone on 26 August (Monday).
In the “Meet-the-artist: Billy Childs Music Sharing Session”, the master will share his compositional insights and his long musical journey; the talk “Deconstructing Electronic Music” will lead the audience into the world of electronic music, analysing characteristics of different music styles and their corresponding music cultures, and exploring the culture of electronic music; in the “Meet-the-artist: Dong Xiaolin’s pipa Music Sharing Session”, celebrated pipa artist Dong Xiaolin will share her experience in playing classical instruments on various stages around the world and will perform some classical pieces.
This edition of the Festival gathers numerous world-renowned artists who will present extraordinary performances: the prestigious Vienna Philharmonic will return to Macao and perform under the baton of the most sought-after Columbian-Austrian conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada in collaboration with celebrated Chinese pianist Yuja Wang. The Vienna Philharmonic’s annual midsummer open-air concert is broadcasted every year by the European Broadcasting Union. This year, the orchestra will hold an outdoor concert in Macao, offering a world-class performance to the audience. Multi-Grammy Award winner and jazz pianist Billy Childs will join hands with three exceptional musicians to present a mesmerising night of jazz; the Macao Chinese Orchestra invites several eminent musicians who will perform a repertoire of Chinese and Western classics in the concert When the East Meets the West in Music, including the aria “Nessun Dorma” from the famous Italian opera Turandot; among other splendid programmes.
