“Art Macao: Artists’ Talk”

“Art Macao”, a mega international arts and cultural event, held the “Artists’ Talk” today (28 August) at the Vista, MGM COTAI, exploring how to promote Chinese culture in contemporary forms on the international stage, and bringing Macao art to the world. The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam Chon Weng; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian; the Deputy Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Cheng Wai Tong; and several guest speakers held a discussion with the youth and had a lively exchange.

The organiser specially invited nearly 200 guests from different fields as well as local young artists to discuss how to develop traditional culture in new artistic forms, stimulate artists and youth to have creative inspiration and create works of art with local values, thus bringing Macao art to the world. The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam Chon Weng, mentioned in his speech that “Art Macao” is an important moment in the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of the People's Republic of China and the 20th Anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China. It also marks the basis of this mega international art and cultural festival. From local culture to foreign arts and from art exhibitions to stage performances, all of which have received the enthusiastic response and active participation from all walks of life, creating a brand-new cultural tourism image of Macao. He hoped that the youth, as the most creative group and the major forces of art heritage and development, can be stimulated with new ideas in this talk and present creative opinions, jointly establishing the international brand of “Art Macao” and contributing to the bright culture and arts of Macao.

The talk was hosted by the curator of MGM’s Hua Yuan art exhibition, one of the “Art Macao” exhibitions held by hotels and integrated resorts, and Executive Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai, Miriam Sun. The composer Huang Ruo, local young artist Eric Fok and young Director Wong Su Fai held a discussion on a special topic starting from MGM’s exhibition “Hua Yuan”, followed by a conversation between the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam Chon Weng; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian; the Deputy Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Cheng Wai Tong; and other youth representatives on the preparation and activities of “Art Macao”. The discussion was held in a lively and warm atmosphere.

Co-Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, Pansy Ho, mentioned that the Hua Yuan exhibition allowed local youth to appreciate new forms of traditional art, and inspire their creativity with Macau’s unique positioning as the exchange center of Chinese and Western culture. We hope that we can aspire them to explore new ways in which Chinese cultural heritage can be transformed by various innovations and trends of today to propel it to an international level.

(SJM), Bernard Yiu; the Manager of Conference and Exhibition Department of Nam Kwong International Conference & Exhibition Company Ltd., Liao Qihui; and the Chief of the Division of School Sports and Youth Activities of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Luís Gomes, and was attended by the Advisors of the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Lam Wan Nei and Charles Lam; the Vice President and Acting Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man and Lau Fong; the Members of the Cultural Consultative Committee, José Luís de Sales Marques and Li Zisong; the Vice President of the Committee of Cultural Industries and Director of the School of Arts of the Macao Polytechnic Institute, Hsu Hsiu-Chu; the Member of the Committee of Cultural Industries, Chu Miu Lai; the Members of the Tourism Development Committee, Wong Fai and Wu Wai Fong.
